Trident claims points finish with Roman Staněk

The FIA Formula 2 Championship went back underway at Silverstone. The British Grand Prix track, located in Northamptonshire, welcomed the F2 drivers for the Sprint Race today, which featured changing weather conditions and a red-flag interruption due to intensifying precipitations. In addition, the race was impacted by several incidents that didn’t involve the Trident Motorsport drivers but caused two safety-car situations and a Virtual Safety Car. 

In Qualifying, Richard Verschoor and Roman Staněk didn’t find a good feeling with the British venue, as the Czech ended up in P22, while the Dutchman was 13th. The backward starting position didn’t jeopardize their race though. Staněk delivered an amazing series of overtakes from last to a remarkable 8th place, especially considering the early situation. The 20-year-old was back in the points after Monte Carlo, despite reporting an issue with a sticking throttle, and set the fifth-fastest lap of the race.

Verschoor didn’t have an equally successful run as he appeared to have less chemistry with the wet track but still got back to P11. The Trident Motorsport drivers will have more chances to impress in tomorrow’s Feature Race at 9:55 local time. Having to stop for a mandatory tyre change will help teams to make a greater difference using strategy.

He showed good chemistry with his car on a wet track, pulling off multiple excellent overtaking moves. With a better qualifying position, we would now be talking about an even better result. Unfortunately, we did not reach the points zone with Richard Verschoor, who almost climbed up to the top ten. We need to focus on tomorrow's Feature Race, which is expected to be very open, both due to the unpredictable weather and to the different strategy options made available by the mandatory pit stop."
