Trident close to points in final race of the season

The Abu Dhabi Feature Race completed the 13th and final round of the 2023 FIA Formula 2 Championship today at the challenging track of Yas Marina. Trident Motorsport could not achieve any points due to the difficult qualifying performance by both drivers, too far behind on the starting grid to set ambitious goals.
Roman Staněk and Paul Aron scored P15 and P21 in qualifying respectively, and experienced a Feature Race without particular acute. Both of them started with the Prime tyres. The Estonian rookie stalled the engine of his car, as happened in the Sprint Race, and had to trail the pack in the last position.
Aron finished in P18 place, after also serving a five-second penalty for ignoring the blue flags. Staněk had a good impact in the Feature Race and climbed up to seventh place, before returning for tyre changes during lap 22.
After moving to the Option tyres, the Czech driver managed to recover up to P12 in the final stages, showing a convincing race pace that would have taken him far with a more positive qualifying session.
The FIA Formula 2 teams will stop in Abu Dhabi for a collective test session, before taking a well-deserved winter break.
Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager, quote:
"The season's epilogue offered us no particular reason for satisfaction. After a tough qualifying session, our drivers could not recover using strategies in what turned out as a smooth race. Aron stalled at the start and had a race at the back of the pack. Still, he was able to gain experience in the new category. Staněk started on Prime tires, climbing up to P7 in the early stages. The Czech driver showed a good race pace after moving to the Option tires, setting some fast laps in the final stages and recovering to P12. If he could start further ahead, we would have had the potential to confidently break into the points zone."
