Trident comes close to making the top 10 with Belov

The second race of the Formula Regional European by Alpine at the Hungaroring once again highlighted the good work done by the Trident team. Michael Belov came close to reaching the points by finishing in P11, just a few hundredths behind the tent-place finisher. Ruiqi Liu, who achieved his best placing of the season on Saturday, finishing in P9, crossed the finish line in P18, penalized by an unfortunate qualifying 2 which ended in 23rd. Unfortunately, Nicola Lacorte had to retire. Trident now looks with confidence to the next event which will take place on its home track of Mugello on the weekend of 14 July.

Nicola Lacorte: “This weekend started well, I immediately felt at ease on a circuit unknown to me and we did a good job in practice. The rain that fell before the start of the first qualifying round was a real surprise, but I still managed to get a good result with P16. In race 1 I then finished 13th, achieving the best I could hope for in those conditions. Qualifying 2 was more complicated due to traffic and a mistake on my part. At the start of the second race, I stalled and retired a few laps later."

Michael Belov: “The weekend was quite ok. For me, it has been the first track experience after eight months out of racing. The pace was quite good already in testing, so I felt ready, but moments before qualifying 1 it started raining. Pace was there in the end but it was too late, as there was more water on the track. We managed to fine-tune the setup, the team did a good job. Starting P11, in the middle of the pack, was quite difficult, so despite a really good start I wasn’t able to move forward. Thanks to the team for the weekend, it was a joy to drive this car and the whole crew was so warm”.

Ruiqi Liu: “First time for me here in Budapest, the track is really nice. We had good speed both in wet and dry conditions, and thanks to a great Race 1 I was able to finally secure the first points of the season! Qualifying 2 was a bit compromised by my lack of performance on track and in the second race I was only able to recover to P17. I think we can still be happy with this round, really thanks to the team”.
