Trident makes experience at Zandvoort

The Zandvoort circuit, one of the toughest on the 2024 calendar, is to host the third round of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine. The Trident team lined up for the trip to the Netherlands with only two cars, featuring rookies Nicola Lacorte and Ruiqi Liu. The experienced Roman Bilinski is recovering after a road accident that occurred on the 3rd of June.

For Lacorte and Liu, it was not easy to get to grips with Zandvoort circuit, and they achieved the 24th and 22nd overall time respectively in the first qualifying. In race 1, held in the rain, the Italian was able to recover to 18th place, while the Chinese racer finished 25th.

The second qualifying session saw Lacorte come 20th and Liu 22nd. The second race, which took place in sunny conditions, saw Nicola climb up to P16 with excellent lap times, while Liu finished in P23. The next round of the season is scheduled for the June 23rd weekend at the Hungaroring in Budapest. The entire Trident team stands close to Bilinski and wishes him a speedy recovery.

Nicola Lacorte: “The weekend started with some challenges in free practice as I was adapting to a track I was unfamiliar with, and due to some driving errors. The first qualification was thus a tough one. Race 1 was actually quite short due to the safety car on track in the opening laps due to the rain. When the race started, I had a good pace. Race 2, however, was difficult in the early stages, then I found a good speed and recovered a few positions."

Ruiqi Liu:“It was my first time at Zandvoort, certainly not an easy track and with a banked corner that was new to me and very complex to tackle. It wasn't the weekend I could imagine. We had good speed both in the dry and in the wet, I tried to maximize it in qualifying, while in the race some contacts didn't make my life easy. I thank the team for their support during the weekend, and I look forward to the next round in Budapest with optimism."
