Yas Marina: the final act

The time has come for the final act of the 2024 FIA Formula 2 Championship, which will stage the fourteenth round of the season next weekend on the Yas Marina circuit in the United Arab Emirates. As per tradition, the circuit located on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi will also host a post-season test session, which teams usually use to gain experience with the drivers who will compete the following season.

Trident Motorsport arrives at the season's final round in good form, with two drivers who made their debut in the category after the summer break. The team brought Australian Christian Mansell to his debut in Baku and American Max Esterson last weekend in Losail. The driver from Maitland has already collected ten points in the two rounds he contested, while the New Yorker had a promising debut in Qatar. Neither driver knows the 5.281km Yas Marina track in a Formula 2 car. As a result, it will be important for both drivers to get the most out of Friday’s free practice, avoid making mistakes, and lay the foundations for a competitive qualifying session.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager: “The team is in good form. We are going to Yas Marina to confirm this trend and have a successful weekend. The Yas Marina race is technically demanding and never easy to plan, especially with two drivers with little experience in the category. It will be important to work well in the free practice session and prepare at best for qualifying, which is always crucial in this category. The team will give full support to Mansell and Esterson, so that they can be competitive and allow us to improve our ranking.”

The engines of the FIA Formula 2 Championship cars will start on Friday at 11:05 for the 45-minute free practice session. Qualifying is scheduled later on the same day, starting at 15:00. Saturday will see the contenders in action for Sprint Race at 16:15. The Feature Race, which will conclude the weekend, will start on Sunday at 13:25. The on-track activity will be broadcast live on Sky Sport F.1. Above times are expressed in local time, three hours ahead of Central European Time.
